Kylie Palmer captures Women’s 200m freestyle gold – Swimming News
Kylie Palmer of Chandler captured gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2013 Swimming Australia Time Trials in Brisbane on Friday, June 21.
The 23-year-old Palmer, who was most favourite for silver medal of the race, exceeded expectations of her opponents in the payoff, as she raked the title.
With her impeccable pace, Palmer remained in a marginal lead over her following swimmer, as she surfaced on the finishing end for first position with an effort of 1 minute and 59.88 seconds.
The champion was chased by Bronte Barratt of SPW, who was most favourite for the title. The 24-year-odl Barratt stayed 0.64 seconds slower from her preceding finisher as she emerged on the finishing wall for silver medal with an
effort of 2 minutes and 00.52 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Katie Goldman of SPW, who was 0.42 seconds apart and hit the wall for bronze medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 00.94 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Emma McKeon of WIAQ, who was 2.02 seconds slower from her preceding finisher and settled on the finishing end by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 02.96 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Da Defrancesco of Miami, who was only 0.24 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 03.20 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Bonn MacDonald of TSS Aquatic, who was 0.19 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.39 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was secured by Jessica Ashwood of SOPAC, who was 1.01 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 04.40 seconds.
Eighth spot of the race was obtained by Leanne Wright of Carlile, who was 0.24 seconds slower and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 04.84 seconds for eighth place.
In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament after the session.
