Kylie Stewart occupies Women’s 800m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Kylie Stewart of DYNA-GA occupied gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Thursday, July 12.
The 16-year-old Stewart displayed her remarkable efforts in the distant freestyle event. She faced strong battle from Bryn Handley of Lakeside-KY in the first half but with her utter determination, she gained a comfortable lead in the second half and secured first position.
Stewart remained one and a half body length ahead of her challenger and posted a time of 9 minutes and 08.02 seconds for gold medal.
Her title-claiming effort remained 1.26 seconds ahead of Handley, who proved her audacity for second fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 9 minutes and 09.28 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Ellie Grimes of Lakeside-KY, who stayed nearly one body length apart and reached the medal rostrum for bronze medal by clocking a time of 9 minutes and 10.10 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Alli Crenshaw of DYNA-GA, who stayed one and a half body length behind and posted a time of 9 minutes and 11.73 seconds.
Similarly, Crenshaw was chased by Handley’s teammate, Kelsey Buese, who occupied fifth position of the discipline by submitting an effort of 9 minutes and 12.83 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the discipline was secured by Julia Durmer of DYNA-GA, who stayed 0.44 seconds behind tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 13.27 seconds.
The 15-year-old Durmer was trailed by Catherin Felix of Hilton Head Aquatics, who suffered a loss of almost 1.50 seconds from her former finisher. Felix stayed considerably slower from her foregoing competitor over the finishing end and ended her swim in seventh place by reporting an effort of 9 minutes and 14.89 seconds.
Eighth position of the sixteen-lap discipline was secured by Emily Hammond of Hilton Head Aquatics, who stayed 0.57 seconds slower and posted a time of 9 minutes and 15.46 seconds.
In addition, Stewart was pleased with her victory while the championship will end on July 15 after the completion of all races.
