Kymerson, Crews and Toledo prevail in opening round of Mr Price Pro Ballito – Surfing news
Brazil’s Krystian Kymerson, his compatriot Filipe Toledo and Australia’s Mitch Crews made the Round 2 (Round of 48) cut at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime Mr Price Pro Ballito after claiming top honours in their respective Round 1 (Round
of 96) heats at Ballito in South Africa on Wednesday, July 3, 2013.
France’s Marc Lacomare finished behind Kymerson in second place during the 22nd heat to move alongside the latter into the next round. Australia’s Perth Standlick finished third, while South Africa’s Shaun Joubert had to settle for fourth place. Both the
surfers were consequently eliminated from the competition.
The 23rd heat saw Puerto Rico’s Brian Toth accompany Crews into the second round after securing runner-up position. Brazil’s Ian Gouveia and America’s Luke Davis found themselves out of the race for the event title after rounding out the third and fourth
place respectively.
Brazil’s Jean Da Silva accompanied his compatriot Toledo into the next round after finished in second place during the 24th heat. New Zealand’s Ricardo Christie and South Africa’s Greg Emslie got ejected from the contention for the event title after finished
in third and fourth place respectively.
With 1.5 to 2 metre range on offer at the main even site on the latest day of the competition, the exciting surfing talent from around the globe had to rely heavily on their experience during their hunt for big scores.
The 22rd heat saw Kymerson walk away with a successful resulted after earning a 6.60 and 6.83 off his best-two waves for a two-wave total of 13.43 points.
Lacomare successfully extended his life in the event as well after finishing in second place with a heat-total of 12.67 points. Standlick and Joubert rounded out the bottom-two positions after registering a heat-total of 9.93 and 8.90 points respectively,
thus getting removed from the contention for the event title.
Crews emerged triumphant in the 23rd heat after finishing with a two-wave total of 13.67 points, which comprised of a 7.50 and 6.17-point ride.
Toth managed to make the Round 2 cut as well after finishing with a heat-total of 9.60 points, which proved sufficient to put him in second place.
Gouveia finished in third place with a heat-total of 9.40 points, while Davis had to settle for the bottom position after finishing with a heat-total of 5.60 points. Both the surfers were consequently removed from the contention for the event title.
The 24th heat saw Toledo clinch victory after registering a two-wave total of 13.57 points, which included a 6.50 and 7.07-point ride.
Da Silva secured second place through a heat-total of 12.10 points, which served to take him through into the next round.
Christie finished in third place with a heat-total of 9.04 points, while Emslie finished fourth after registering a heat-total of 7.97 points.
