Kyra Shroff, the strongest contender to partner Sania Mirza in the London Olympics – Tennis News
Indian booming starlet, Kyra Shroff, is ecstatic to be a part of four players that are short-listed that will feature in the London Olympics, later this year. She is given a strong signal from the All India Tennis Association (AITA)
to be chosen as the partner to play alongside the number one Indian doubles specialist, Sania Mirza. She is enthralled to have such an opportunity but has decided to delay her celebration until the final decision is made by the board.
Other three potential players that are part of the short-listed list include Sharmada Balu, Rutuja Bhosle and Prerna Bhambri. They will be eager to perform well in the upcoming tournaments and force the board to change their decision
but it seems unlikely because Shroff has been performing consistently for over a year now.
Shroff was surrounded by the media representatives after the rumours were aired about her partnership with Mirza. She tackled the situation very wisely and stated, “I'm not really thinking about the Olympics trials. Right now,
I want to concentrate in the next two USD 10000 ITF tournaments to be held in Fujairah and Oman in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).”
She is just 19-years-old but her maturity is definitely going to help her cement her position as the strongest contender to partner the Indian tennis ace Mirza. It will be interesting to see how the wife of former captain of Pakistan
Cricket Team, Shoaib Malik, co-ordinates with the booming talent and helps her learn new traits of handling pressure.
Shroff is currently ranked 667 in the doubles ranking and has stepped up 15 ranks to hold 872nd spot in the singles category. Talking about her Olympics dream, she added, “If I get a chance to partner Sania, it would
be good. But if that doesn't work out, my goal is to make it to the Indian team for 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Currently, I want to just keep my head down and work hard. I will be excited only if my name features when the Indian squad for the Olympics would
be announced in June.”
It is good to see youngsters from sub-continent are taking this sport seriously now.
