All the local Chinese stars – Zhang Anda, Liu Song, Xiao Guodong, and Liu Chuang – made it to the second round beating Patrick Wallace, Noppon Saengkham, Dermot McGlinchey, and Jak Jones respectively.
The highest break of the day was 130 made by Ben Woollaston against the reigning world ladies snooker champion, Reanne Evans. The British pro only managed to win the first frame with a dominant break of 50 before losing the next five straight.
The longest battle and an upset were seen in the match between David Gilbert and David Morris. Till the interval, Gilbert was able to win only one frame out of the four he played. Morris was 3-1 up with a match-high break of 76 and was looking close to the finish line. But Gilbert, who was more experienced than Morris, roared back and won the next two frames, equalising the scores by 3-3. Morris was able to have the next one but Gilbert had no reeling effects and won the following two in a row again to his seal his victory by 5-3.
