Kyren Wilson has beaten Duane Jones by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frames match in Round 2 of Event 2 of this season’s World Snooker Q School.
This event is being staged at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Duane Jones, who outplayed Justin Astley in Round 1, crashed out in Round 2. However, it was an impressive performance from Wilson, as he showed great temperament in the deciding frame to secure a place in the next round.
However, it was a very well fought battle between both players which went all the way. The overall score-line in the meanwhile was 65-20; 17-72(65); 69(53)-22; 60-8; 35-66; 120 (104)-0.
The opening frame was a bit cagey, as both players toiled their rhythm but in the end, it was Wilson who came on top to draw the first blood 1-0. He again received the first chance in the second frame but this time he lost his concentration, breaking down
on 17 and when the chance presented itself, Jones knocked in a classy break of 65 to level the things at 1-1.
Wilson however showed no reeling effects and restored his one-frame lead at 2-1 in the following third by carving a break of 53. The following three frames were scrappy and many chances were squandered by both players.
Wilson won the fourth frame to go in front at 3-1 but he was pushed to the limits as Jones, who was left down by one frame with two to play, clawed back with all of his energy and dominated the fifth and sixth frames to force the final deciding frame.
The final frame however was over within a blink of an eye, as Wilson slotted a mind-boggling century break of 104 in it to finish the matters off in style.
Kyren Wilson will now face Michael Wasley in Round 3.
