Kyren Wilson sends Joe Swail home – 2011 World Snooker Championship, qualifying round 2
The Northern Ireland’s Joe Swail has been sent home in the qualifiers round 2 of the 2011 World Snooker Championship by a frame score of 10-6 by the newly turned England professional Kyren Wilson at the English Institute of Sports at Sheffield.
The Outlaw, Joe Swail, who has reached the last 16 at the Crucible Theatre many a times before, crashed out.
Kyren Wilson, who turned professional in 2010, produced an accomplishing performance to see off the confident Swail. The overall score line between the players was 7-99, 97-24, 30-66, 0-94, 36-68, 66-7, 77-4, 67-64, 43-66, 10-96, 124-6, 1-58, 61-31, 36-69,
21-59, and 69-75.
Swail was the first one to be among the balls in the opening frame but he committed a foul after rolling in seven points. The 19-year-old, Kyren Wilson, responded with a mind boggling break of 95 to take the first blood 1-0.
However, Swail recovered in the next one with the breaks of 69 and 28 to level the things by 1-1. But this time the teenager bounced back and took two frames in a row with classy breaks of 59 and 72 respectively to lead by 3-1 before the interval.
After the interval Wilson again took the scrappy first one extending his lead to 4-1 before Swail clawed back to win consecutive three frames and things were again levelled by 4-4. Though he lost control of his emotions in the next one and missed a frame
winning chance which resulted in a 5-4 frame score in favour of Wilson.
In the evening session, many chances were seen coming and going until it was Wilson again who dominated the tenth frame.
In the eleventh frame Wilson got the first chance but this time he lost his nerve and when the chance presented itself, Swail slotted an outclass century break of 124 to reduce the deficit by 6-5. But Wilson showed no reeling effects and replied with a couple
of quick fires, 13 and 43, and moved within three frames of victory leaving his opponent two frames behind 7-5.
Swail clawed back in the thirteenth frame with quick breaks of 27 and 29 and showed signs of growing confidence. He looked like he believed he could pull off but the matter was finished off when the youngster reeled off the last three frames enjoying breaks
of 57, 31, and 64 to seal his victory by 10-6.
Having beaten Dermot McGlinchey in round one, Wilson is just two wins away from making his first Crucible debut.
Rory McLeod and Mark Davis stand in the way of Wilson and the most prestigious stage in professional snooker.
