Kyrie Irving and Ricky Rubio nominated as the Rookie of the Month for January: NBA Update
NBA Rookie of the month award is always highly anticipated and is presented on the grounds of overall performance in both Conferences to the Rookies. Two nominations were rightfully presented for the said award based on their marvellous
performance throughout the month of January.
Kyrie Andrew Irving an Aussie-American by ethnicity was the top pick from Eastern Conference, the 19 years old was the 1st overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
He plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers as point guard; gifted with amazing athletic skills he has a perfect track record in this season, which proves him a worthy contender for the Rookie of the month award.
With a points per game average of 18.1, Irving stood tall in January. His best run so far in the season was 32 against New Jersey Nets on 27th January in which he scored 21 of 32 points in the 4th quarter.
Another significant trait was his 4.9 assists and .511 field goal percentages per game which ranked him second amongst all Rookies. Nevertheless .411 three-point field goal percentages placed him third in the same competition.
The second nomination was of Ricky Rubio from the Western Conference. Rubio plays for Minnesota Timberwolves. The Rookie, who is a part of the Spanish national basketball team, holds the honour of being the youngest player ever
to play Spanish ACB League at the age of 14. He also made his debut in Euro league at the age of 16.
The 21 years old was the fifth pick of the NBA draft in 2009 by Minnesota Timberwolves, which made him the first ever player born in 1990s to be drafted in NBA.
The guard for Timberwolves had a perfect score in January. With 8.9 assists and 2.24 steals per game he was ranked first amongst Rookies, moreover scoring 11.4 points per game he was placed 5th in the same competition.
His best score so far in the season was against Houston Rockets as he contributed with a double-double 11 assists and 18 points in his team’s victory.
His professional career is marked by remarkabble achievements, ranging from Euro league to NBA. To highlight a few he was regarded as the MVP of FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, he averaged 22.3 points and 12.8 rebounds. He led
the Spanish ACB League twice in steals moreover he was crowned thrice with FIBA European Young Player of the Year award from 2007 to 2009.
The said players will be given the awards before their next home game.
