Kyrie Irving explodes late on to lead Cleveland Cavaliers past Houston Rockets 118 – 107 – NBA Recap
The Cleveland Cavaliers secured another come from behind win on Sunday, 118 – 107 over the Houston Rockets. The game was closely contested but the Cleveland Cavaliers used a late surge, led by rookie sensation Kyrie Irving, to trounce the Rockets for an
important win at the Quicken Loans Arena.
Irving was sensational in the last quarter, scoring a whopping 16 points. The point guard had 21 points overall in the game. He also dished out 5 assists and had 6 rebounds. Kyrie has been in terrific form lately, and admitted he is determined to get the
Cavaliers in a playoffs spot on the Eastern Conference.
"You have to pay attention to the standings," he said. "I'm aware we're a game out of the eighth spot."
It’s a passion shared by the team’s coach.
"I sit and look at it all the time," Cavaliers coach Byron Scott said. "I know the teams in front of us and what they're doing, I know the team that's right behind us. So I know we have a golden opportunity."
Antawn Jamison carried much of the offensive burden for the Cavaliers throughout the game. Jamison scored team high 28 points and Ramon Sessions chipped in with 15. Three other Cleveland players made it into double digits.
For the Rockets, Luis Scola led the way. The forward finished with a game high 30 points and also hauled down 8 boards. Samuel Dalembert was a force to be reckoned with, scoring 15 and grabbing 10 boards in a double-double effort. Goran Dragic was also impressive
with 20 points and 8 assists.
Houston Rockets were quicker out of the blocks, going up 13 – 7 early in the game. The Cavaliers though used an 11 – 2 burst to overturn their advantage, going up 20 – 17. Cavs remained at the top till the end of the first quarter, 30 – 26.
The Rockets however came back with a vengeance in the second period. Although Cleveland threatened to pull away early, the Rockets hauled them in and overtook them by the end, finishing the first half up at 57 – 54.
The status quo didn’t change after the break and Houston maintained their narrow advantage in the third period. It was only in the fourth that the Cavaliers, and Irving, came to life, outscoring the Rockets 37 – 23 on their way to an impressive victory.
