Kyrie Irving is not the answer of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ problems: NBA Update
Cleveland Cavaliers and their owner Dan Gilbert are so over whelmed with the No. 1 pick in the 2011 National Basketball Association Draft , as if they are about to pick a carbon copy of LeBron James from the draft.
The No. 1 pick is most likely going to be the Duke University Blue Devils point guard Kyrie Irving and the Cavs are hoping that with him, they will bring their sinking ship out of water and once again put their fortunes right.
However, realistically speaking, that seems more than difficult.
There is no doubting Kyrie’s ability, as he is rated top guard in this week draft and his collegiate basketball season also depicts it. Irving scored with an average of 17.5 points per game, provided 4.3 assists in every game and
clutched 3.4 rebounds in each game. However, Irving participated in just 11 games and spent most of the season outside the court because of the turf toe injury. However, the most important fact that the Cavs are forgetting is that no one player can the team
a championship.
So considering Irving, the solution for all of their problems will be extremely unwise of the Cavs. Besides having the No. 1 pick in the draft, the Cavs also have No. 4 option and for that they are hoping to have the second best
guard of the draft Derrick Williams, which is not possible.
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz are well aware of Williams’s capabilities and they will be foolish if they let him slip to the Cavs. Although the Timberwolves are still looking for some last minute trade for their No.
2 pick, however, the chances of there are very thin chances that Williams and Irving play from the same side.
This leaves the Cavs with the option to have a skilful centre and the best choice for them would be Enes Kanter. The young gun has the athleticism and accuracy in shooting which is a rare commodity to find in the bigs these days.
Having Irving and Kanter in the side will definitely change things, but they wouldn’t start giving them dividends immediately. The Cavs have to show some patience and forget about their WIN NOW slogan. As this slogan has dented
them a lot and Gilbert should now follow his own advice (There are NO SHORTCUTS).
As far as LeBron James is concerned, the Cavs now needs to close this chapter and move on, because basketball didn’t end with the departure of King James. Though James failed to perform against the Dallas Mavericks, but he is still
a great player. The Cavs shouldn’t expect the same from the young picks, as it will put them under immense pressure.
In order to claim the title the Cavs should not repeat their old mistakes, the ones they committed in James era when they made him the centre piece and did every thing to keep him happy. Secondly, they should form a decent bunch
of players and then give them time to groom, which will give them good results in the future.
