Kyrie Irving scores 25 as Cleveland Cavaliers edge past Charlotte Bobcats 102-94 - NBA Recap
The number one pick of the 2011 NBA draft, Kyrie Irving, might be new to the NBA but he possess skills that have made him a standout in his team and could in time make him one of the best players in the league.
Kyrie showcased his talents once again in this young season as he guided the Cleveland Cavaliers to their sixth win, accumulating 25 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists in the game against Charlotte Bobcats.
This is Irving’s 11th double digit tally in the 12 games- the only one that he missed was his debut game.
"It hasn't been easy," said Irving, "I mean it's gone pretty well, but it's definitely not easy. The back-to-back games and the travel, I mean, it's not an excuse, but it's something I'm trying to get used to. Every single day you try to learn something
new. It's not easy but I'm enjoying this process and that's the most important thing for me."
Seniors members of the team, just as they have been doing so far, once again played the supporting role to perfection.
Antawn Jamison had 20 points on 9 for 16 from the floor while Omri Casspi and Anderson Varejao both drained 14 each.
Cavaliers were 48.8% from the floor and 20-29 from the charity stripe.
D.J Augustin led the Bobcats 24 points and 8 assists while Gerald Henderson netted 17 on 6 for 11 from inside the arc. Rookie Kemba Walker registered 14 whereas DJ White came off the bench and bundled 15 on 7-for-9 from the floor.
Bobcats were outstanding in the first half.
After a dismal first quarter which ended at 23-30 in favour of Cavaliers, the Bobcats came from behind and rattled a superb 27-10 spurt in the first 10 minutes of the second frame to turn the game on its head.
Pushing the momentum into the second half, Bobcats dominated the early part of the third frame. They were ahead 70-62, but what followed next was a 15-7 spurt by the Cavs that put both teams neck to neck at 77 all.
The Cavs strengthened their defence in the deciding quarter and attacked with full throttle to turn the game in their favour yet again, getting ahead by 87-79. Bobcats were up to the task and making a comeback in the ensuing passage, gained a 1 point lead
94-93 with 2 minutes remaining.
Unfortunately for them, they froze in the dying moments and on the Cavs capitalized, finishing the game with a 9-0 run to seal the win.
