Kyron Israelsohn acquires Men 100m breaststroke gold: Day one – 2012 NSW Metropolitan Championships
Kyron Israelsohn of LCOV acquired gold medal of the Long Course 100m breaststroke discipline in Men 15 Year Olds age group on first day of the 2012 New South Wales (NSW) Metropolitan Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday, March
3.
The NSW Metropolitan meet is a two-day champion, providing a chance to their age group swimmers to compete with each other in their main events.
The 15-year-old Israelsohn went on a rampage in the double lap breaststroke playoff. He faced ruthless aggression of MQU’s Jayke Small in the final lap of the event, but with his continued efforts, he secured the victory stand for gold medal.
Israelsohn remained considerably ahead of his closest competitor, Keegan Ross of THIL in the first lap of the race as he ended his initial half with the timing of 33.18 seconds. He was trailed by Ross, who remained 0.90 seconds away from him and ended his
first lap with a second best timing of 34.08 seconds.
Ross was chased by Small, who stayed 1.02 seconds slower from him on the first turn and covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 35.10 seconds.
With his irresistible efforts, Israelsohn remained dominant in the final lap and secured top finish in the event. Small elevated his efforts in the final round to capture gold finish but the loss was irreparable as Israelsohn finished first with an effort
of 1 minute and 11.94 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist remained nearly four seconds slower from the mark of 1 minute and 07.80 seconds, owned by Jake Baggaley of NCAQ in December 2010.
On the other hand, Small remained 0.09 seconds behind his foregoing finisher and transpired on the victory stand for silver medal by posting an effort of 1 minute and 12.03 seconds. He was trailed by Ross, who was just 0.10 seconds slower and ended third
with the timing of 1 minute and 12.13 seconds.
In addition, podium finishers collected their accolades after the session while the championship will end on March 4 after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category.
