Kyrylo Leonov overpowers Jaromir Janacek in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Polish Open 2012
Ukraine’s Kyrylo Leonov showed a great performance on court as he reached into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating Jaromir Janacek of Czech Republic in round-of-16 clash at the Polish Open 2012 in Poland, on Friday, August 31.
The un-seeded Kyrylo, who played tremendous badminton in all of his matches in the tournament, had to put in extra effort to overpower his talented opponent Jaromir in a sensational rubber-set contest.
The in-form Kyrylo lost the opening game as he could not put up strong show. However, he displayed his remarkable skills in the following games and remained successful in winning the battle in three games with a decent score by taking 39 minutes on court.
On the contrary, Jaromir played remarkable badminton in first set but failed to remain consistent in the following sets and ultimately bowed down to Kyrylo in a superb three-set contest with a respectable margin.
In the first set, Kyrylo struggled hard to maintain a good rhythm but he failed to play positive game and remained trailing far behind on score board at 4-11 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Kyrylo tried his best but failed to narrow the huge gap and ultimately lost the set with a 17-21 score on the board.
The most significant thing in the following set was the tempo of rallies which was quite fast as both shuttlers played to their maximum speed and remained close until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they continued putting up spectacular show without sparing any chance for each other to dominate the pace of rallies.
However, it was Kyrylo who managed to played positive and smart badminton in the ending points and took the set with a 21-18 margin on score board.
In the deciding set, Kyrylo got a wonderful flow and he did not face any trouble in setting up a huge 11-5 lead until the mid-game break.
After the interval, the Ukrainian shuttler continued playing in the similar aggressive fashion and ended up the game with a fabulous margin of 21-12.
Kyrylo won this pre-quarter-final clash against Jaromir in rubber sets with a reasonable 17-21, 21-18 and 21-12 score on the board.
