L.A. Noire DLC details revealed, Aliens: Colonial Marines set for spring 2012 release
As the Electronic Entertainment Expo gets ever closer, various studios are taking advantage of the increased amount of attention the gaming world is receiving by announcing release dates and other details of their various projects.
Rockstar games kicks things off with their announcement of a host of Downloadable Content packs for their critically acclaimed L.A. Noire. A majority of the DLC is already available for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 owners, with subsequent release on the PlayStation
3 pending on the restoration of the PlayStation Store.
The DLC ranges from new cases to free weapons or as Rockstar so aptly put it, “several standalone cases, collectibles and challenges will be released via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live (Marketplace).”
Chicago Lightning Detective Suit and Chicago Piano Machine Gun are both available for download for free with the Naked Vice City Case Desk Case and A Slip of the Tongue Traffic Desk Case available for 320 Microsoft points and £3.19 on the PlayStation Network
respectively.
Meanwhile, Rockstar also announced that the Nicholson Electroplating Arson Desk Case would release on the 21st of June for 320 MS Points and £3.19 on the PSN respectively. This would be followed by Reefer Madness Vice Desk Case for the same price
on the 12th of July.
Meanwhile Gearbox has revealed that their latest Aliens title, Aliens: Colonial Marines, is scheduled for a spring 2012 release date.
The game’s developers seem to be particularly attached to the project claiming it is one of the studios dream projects, “Aliens: Colonial Marines, designed as an interactive successor to the landmark films from Twentieth Century Fox, is a dream project about
which our studio is deeply committed and passionate.”
Colonial Marines will put players in the shoes of one of the marines sent in to investigate an Alien infested area. The teaser trailer that was recently released gave little away, as it consisted mostly of two marines conversing while file names and commands
appeared on a computer screen.
The trailer then ended with the unmistakable view of an Alien making its way to the centre of the screen before ending.
Gearbox know the weight of expectations that rest on them as previous attempts at bringing the classic horror movie to video games have fallen short of the mark. Yet, the promise of some intense action in claustrophobic and dark environments ought to keep
the gamers’ attention at least until the game’s release.
One can expect to both see and hear more on Aliens: Colonial Marines at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo which kicks off in a few days time.
