  1. Hi.  Yes.  I know what you are talking about.  I too was diagnosed about two years ago.  It's been a long two years chasing meds that work.  About six months ago, we added something new to the mix and it did help stop the cycling.  About two months ago, I had three weeks of normal feel good.  Then we found that my Lithium level was too high to be safe.  So much for feel good.  I'm reasonably stable, but we still need to work on the meds because this doesn't really cut it.

I think that if you had a med change that has brought constant feel right for two months, you can start to relax.  It sounds like it will be your resting place.  At some point, you may need some tinkering, but your baseline probably is this new state.  Try not to worry so much and go on with life.

I don't think we can ever take something for granted because too much about us and our lives has been in constant change, but work with your therapist on learning to accept that your life no longer is that same roller coaster.  Heh, I'm hoping to work on that too someday soon.

  2. The idea of psychotropic meds is to help you feel normal so that you're able to function every day. I know the feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop when you are responding well to medication, but the truth is that maybe the meds are finally doing what they're supposed to. I suggest to people w/ bipolar to keep a journal of moods to show they're doctors. It can help you focus more on your treatment and help  your doctor treat you effectively.

  3. Hi,

You've already received an excellent reply to your question.

Apparently you have been correctly diagnosed and are receiving treatment for bipolar disorder. Congratulations ~ on seeking and finding someone who can successfully treat it.

If the meds are working for you than that is wonderful! It's time for your to relax and enjoy the positive feelings fully. You've heard all the sayings about what worry will do for a person ~ nothing good!!! It truly is a waste of your valuable time and energy that could be spent living each moment to the fullest!

Note: The journal idea can and will be a big help! You will keep a "handle" on what's happening and be able to address any changes in your moods and feelings much sooner. There's no need for fear.

[The following information is NOT true for everyone.] Some people may experience a time when some meds MAY reach a point where they "plateau" for some patients. That does NOT mean that you will go backwards to what was experience before treatment! What it does mean is that the dosage(s) may need to be changed (usually "up"). Or, another medication may be necessary. With the right professional treating you this will be easily handled, should it arise.

Wishing your a future filled with sunshine and much happiness.
