LA Angels of Anaheim going under the radar? Why?

I heard of this east coast bias in sports and especially with baseball where people only talk about the Yankees and the Red Sox. Do not get me wrong. I understand why MLB and the media talks a lot about the Yankees and the Red Sox on tv. Both are drama and we love drama. A. Rod maddona drama, Pudge Rodriquez being a yankee, Manny being Manny in boston and soon to be ex Res Sox player and ofcourse the rivarly. I get that. Maybe I just answered my own question there but when I turn on Baseball Tonight, all they talk about is ofcourse yankess, red sox but now the cubs and even brewers get more air time. But most of them misses the fact that the best team in baseball right now is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Even when they got the blockbluster deal with Texiera, all they have is 5 min worth of descussion. You guys got to agree with me that the Angels right now is the team to beat. They destroyed the Red Sox and Texiera didnt even have a hit against them. Imagine if Texiera end up being Texiera, they are very hard to beat. They already got the pitching and they already got arguebly the best manager in baseball in terms of stradegy and small ball. But ofcourse the east coast bias and drama infested media only likes to talk about how the yankees and red sox struggles and how great their lil cubies doing. When did the Angels becoming the Marlins all of a sudden? Angels have winning records for the last 6 years ever since they won that 2002 world series and nobody even talk about them. Is it because they have no drama? Its not like they live in a small market town. Granted the crappy dodgers have more history but why don't the Angels be the team to talk about especially when they are not in the same county as the dodgers. Orange County peeps where are you at?! But this is what they want. They want to go under the radar and destroyed all the teams that is in their way. While people talkin about how Many being Many and getting traded or what not, Angels keep on winning games and quietly again win the championship. And ofcourse again nobody will realized they won the world series cus they are the Angels, still the lil brother of the Dodgers in Southern California. Yes, u can tell i am an upset Angels fan for not getting the love LOL.

  1. I ask myself this every night when the local evening news (KCAL 9)reports on the Dodgers before the Angels.  Even last night, after the Angel's swept the Red Sox at Fenway for the first time in ages, they weree still second to the crappy under-500 Dodgers!!  It annoys me to no end.  And don't get me started on the national sports media!!  Whenever the Angel's play the Red Sox or the Yankees and it gets televised on ESPN or something, I turn the volume down!!

  2. all i have got to say is that i am a die hard rangers fan, but like you were saying about yall playing the red sox with tex, its not like yall needed him before and i know that kotchman obviously doesnt put up the big numbers like tex does, but now with tex in the line up, i think the angels are probably the scariest team in baseball.  yall were my pick to win the world series before yall even got him and i have known for about 10 years now that if texas ever has any shot that yall are THE TEAM TO BEAT!

  3. I don't know where you are, or more accuratley, where your news is coming from, but here on the central cost of cali, the Angels are getting all kinds of media attention. Its been on the cover of the sports page pretty often.

  4. Well you alreay mentioned the East Coast bias, but a lot of it has to do with the Angels playing on the West Coast.  Just think about how much later they play then everyone else.  Most of the country is already asleep by then and not many people get to see the games when they play outside the West Coast.  Trust me though, true baseball fans know exactly how good the Angels are.

  5. I agree with Boston Believes answer, being under the radar is great for the Angels. They will fly right into the playoffs and before other team's fans have a chance to bad mouth them they will have won a World Series. The Yankees-Red Sox fans rivalry gets old and worn out. THe Angels making it in is a breath of fresh air. THe Yanks and Red Sox have a lot of problems right now in the clubhouse let alone their problems on the fields. COngrats on the Tex acquisition and kick back and watch your team coast into the postseason!

  6. Think of it this way. Any team who gets a ton of media attention, or "love" as you made it seem like, ends up getting an equal amount of hate. Sox and Yanks fans take a ton of sh*t on here for being the "worst fans in baseball" or the "most arrogant and classless" fans.  The Angels don't get that. Everyone here knows you're the best team. It's widely published. Announcers talk about it during games, they talk about Tex. You get a good amount of media attention without

getting a lot of hate. So be happy. Unless you want to deal with Yankee fans trashing you every chance they get. Which trust me, is not very fun.

    Edit:

Plus, the Angels have been winning every year, as you mentioned. The Sox beat them twice in the first round of the playoffs in both 2004 and 2007. We know they're playoff material.  It's not suprising that they're the best team in baseball. Like last years Indians, the spotlight has been stolen by someone else.  The Red Sox and Indians played equally last year- so equally that they had the same record and the ALCS went to 7 games.  However, the Red Sox got all the attention. Boston and NY get all the media attention because (a) they have a huge rivalry, (b) they have high payrolls and are in big market towns, and (c) they combined, have won 5 out of the last 10 world series.  Also, the Rays have come out of nowhere. They always finish last, and surprised everyone this year, and have really stolen the spotlight. People here recognize that the Angels are the best, but still care more about the Yankees and the Rays.

  7. The Angels have been under the radar for a while. As you state it's kind of sad considering their success. A lot of it has to do with the fact that a LOT of baseball fans are bandwagon fans, and don't understand how good the Angels are. As CubsBearsBulls said, true fans know how good they are, and true baseball fans have picked them as an ALCS lock for a while. Addind Tex to their team only reiterates what good fans have been thinking all along. They have a team worth talking about, but most fans are too strung up on East Coast teams to think, there might be a good team out west.

The fact is the Angels are for real. The fact is true baseball fans knew this a while ago. The fact is, I feel sorry for whoever gets them in the ALDS.

  8. They may be flying under the radar to the casual fan.  However, anyone that follows baseball knows how good the Angels havebeen the past few years and what they are doing this year.

Some of the spotlight may be taken by the Rays.  They are having an awesome year and because of that may take some news time that would go the Angels way.

BTW... I live in the Tampa Bay metro area so,

    Go Rays!

  9. The Angels won the World Series not too long ago. They've been a playoff constant.

I've watched them butcher my Yankees more times than I care to share. They destroyed the Red Sox the last three nights. I'm queasy with the thought of the Angels coming to Yankee Stadium for four games, starting tonight.

For Yankees fans, the Angels are all too real.

  10. You answered your own question: "cus they are the Angels, still the lil brother of the Dodgers in Southern California"

  11. You did answer your own question. With Boston and New York still somewhat of a good team...the Angels are barely seen. Why? I have no idea. Probably because of the drama and the "history" that those teams have that come along with them. Coming from an Angels fan myself, I don't really care if they talk all day about us. They'll know who the Angels are after they walk all the way to the World Series and destroy the favorites on the way. Angels are looking scary good right now and if they choose to not notice the best record in baseball...so be it :)

  12. I think the Angel's sweep of Boston IN Boston has put them on the rader!

  13. They are never talked about because they're a West Coast team, and ESPN has serious east coast bias. The Angels aren't the Red Sox, Yankees, or Cubs.
