My husband was born in Lousiana in 1983 and he has a Certificate of Live Birth is that the same thing as a Birth Certificate? Also, on line 6C where it says "Name of Hospital" there is an asterisk * instead of an answer. Does anyone know what that means? He has always wondered whether he was adopted because he was not issued a SS number until he was 5 years old. Last question- there is a blank for birth order and it is left blank with no answer. Does anyone know what this means?? please help. thanks!

  1. Sorry, the only part of your question I can help with is this:

The blank for birth order simply means that he was the only child born at that time to his mother. He was not part of a set of twins or triplets...and so on.

    Aloha and good luck!

  2. are there any signatures? vital details to his birth? are his parents names typed or signed or both? is the date of issuing close to or around his birth? what does his mother say about his birth? does she say it was a home birth or in a hospital? I gave birth to my daughter out of a hospital so there is no hospital name listed on her birth certificate. is it on a pretty piece of paper or microfilm?

My amended bc is on microfilm, no signatures ( not even the dr. that delivered it ) its issued after the finalization of my adoption which was 6 months after my birth, there is the hospitals name that I was born in, but no vital details. everything is typed, nothing is signed. It looks bland, and fake.

I know some LA adoptees, if you want me to put you into contact w/ them ask.

********** I would ask his amother if he was born in a hospital. If he was born by C-section, ask to see the scar. Ask what hospital and try to obtain his hospital records. If he was born there, under his current name all he should have to do is show ID and be given his hospital records.

If he's adopted, there will be no hospital records for him under his adopted name and he won't get any. That is a great way to identify if he was adopted or not imo.

If he was born by c-section, his mother should have a scar, and a hospital should be on his certificate. His mother should be able to tell you the hospital and it should be on his certificate.

  3. As Gershom mentioned, ask his mother some questions.  If he was born by Ceasarean, chances are less than likely that he was born outside of a hospital, particularly in 1983.  I would definitely want to make some inquiries about this.

Your husband was born in 1983.  Because it was not until 1987 that the IRS began requiring parents to list a social security number for children they claimed on their income taxes, and obtaining one for a child is not mandatory under the law, it would not have been odd for him to not have one the year of his birth.  I was born in 1964.  My parents didn't get me one until I was a teenager and wanted to get a job.  My first mother was born in 1946.  She didn't get one until the 1960's, when she finally needed it.

On the birth certificate, look for the date it was filed.  I am adopted.  My amended certificate of live birth looks quite real.  It has full signatures, including the doctor's signature.  It has place, time, date of birth.  I've compared it to certificates of non-adopted persons and the only dead giveaway that I *might* be adopted is that the filing date is over two years after my birth.  This is because I was adopted at two years of age.  It would be unusual in 1983 for someone to wait very long to apply for the birth record, so a big discrepancy in the filing date vs. his birth date could strongly suggest adoption.

  4. I can add that it wasn't unusual at that time to not get social security numbers until you were older.  I don't think I got mine until I was 8 or 9.  But now the application for a social security number is usually given to the parents in the hospital.

The fact that your husband didn't get his SSN until age 5 may or may not mean anything, regarding adoption.

    Best of luck!
