American soccer star Landon Donovan has opted out of transferring to a European football club during the off-season in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034.
It was rumoured that the 28-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818 captain would be making a move to English Premier League club Everton, but he has turned down any such suggestions, saying he needs to rest in order to put up his best performance
for Galaxy and the national team in the upcoming year.
"I feel that it is important to continue to rest and recover this offseason as opposed to going on loan," he told the Major League Soccer website.
Donovan made six appearances for German club Bayern Munich on a loan transfer in 2009. Earlier this year, the ace winger spent three months with Everton, scoring two goals in 10 games. Donovan says he has not considered transferring
to any club other than Everton.
"We expect Landon to join our club for the start of preseason training next month as we begin to prepare for the 2011 MLS [Major League Soccer] season," said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena.
Donovan is considered one of the greatest soccer players the United States has ever produced. He has scored the highest number of goals and made the most assists for the American national soccer team, and is also the most capped
out of all US players who are currently active. He scored thrice at the 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. This year, he has been named US Soccer Male Athlete of the Year, for the fourth time in his career. The attacking midfielder was also one of four Galaxy
players on the MLS Best XI for 2010, having scored seven goals in 27 matches for his team.
