LA Galaxy hope Juan Pablo Angel can fill Edson Buddle’s vacancy
Bruce Arena, the General Manager and Head Coach of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Juan-Pablo-c19796 Angel into the team. Angel was signed by the Galaxy on 15 December, 2010 in the Major League Soccer Re-Entry
Draft. According to the coach, Angel has all the potential to fill the large gap left by the departure of the sensational http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edson-Buddle-c12010 to the German side FC Ingolstadt.
The key to the Galaxy’s success in the 2010 MLS season was due in large part to Edson Buddle’s accolade of being the second highest goal scorer in the league.
As Buddle joined the Second Bundesliga outfit, the New York Red Bulls striker Juan Pablo Angel became a free-agent. Philip Anschutz, owner of the Galaxy, wasted little time in acquiring Angel as the perfect replacement for Buddle.
Angel has already scored the highest number of goals for his former Red Bulls team last season. Arena is confident that player will most certainly repeat history with the reigning Western Conference winners. Comparing the former Galaxy top-flight striker
Buddle to the new recruit Angel, skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Landon-Donovan-c21646 said, “The beauty of having Edson last year was that once teams realized that what he was doing was real — it wasn’t just luck, it wasn’t just he was taking a few shots and they were going in — it takes
a lot of pressure off the rest of us. Juan Pablo’s the same way.”
The captain admired the efforts put in by Angel in the pre-season matches and praised the abilities that the 35-year-old still possesses. “He scores goals where a ball drops loose in a box and he pounces on it, he makes a good run in front, and he can score
with his head, from both feet," Donovan said. "He can score from distance and he’s good at taking free kicks, so he’s got it all from that standpoint.”
Donovan holds the record of 17 assists in the last MLS stretch and hopes that he will still be the key play-maker for the team in the 2011 season. Landon sees the similarity of Angel’s desire to score goals with the former player http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Taylor-Twellman-c34733. Commending
Angel’s performance on the field, Donovan feels that the striker has something inside him that drives him to the ball and urges him to usher it in the net. According to him, the sensation is unexplainable, but Angel is exactly what the Galaxy need right now.
With hopes to repeat the goal-numbers at his new outfit, Angel will kick-off the 2011 season for the Galaxy on March 15th against the Seattle Sounders. With Buddle gone, it will be interesting to see what type of an impact Angel will have on the
field for the Galaxy.
