Question:

LAMP distro recommendations?

Since the Linux distro I've been using for my web server is no longer supported I'm looking for a new one and would like recommendations from existing users.

It will be a headless (i.e. no monitor/keyboard) i586 system with relatively little RAM. Don't currently have disks appropriate to a good RAID array but intend to replace them eventually.

  1. Hi, u can try Debian Stable or CentOS.

    Debian

CentOS is an open source and free version of Redhat linux Enterprise.

  2. FreeBSD.  Hands down it is the stablest Unix distro I have every worked with.  Plus I've ran a GUI and had good response times with 96MB of Ram.  You can go as low as 32 with a headless server.

  3. Debian. It works well with a wide range of specs, has a package management system that is simple without sacrificing power, and a very sensible Apache configuration layout.
