LAN card not installing

I have a P-III 833 MHz PC with 128 MB RAM. I want to install a LAN card in order to use the broadband service provided by BSNL. Iam based at Rourkela in Orissa. The local vendors have been unable to install a LAN card properly. What brand or configuration do I use and how do I install it?
