I'm going back to school (senior high school) and Ive concluded, I need a laptop. So I've narrowed it down to these two Hp laptop's Can you please explain to me the terminology because I don't know what some of these things really mean and if the difference is substantial.

We'll call one A) and the other B) they will be listed correspondingly. Links to them are at the bottom in case you want to read full specs. The Intel one is $100 off and the AMD one is selling at the same price no sale.

So we have these two processors

Intel Core 2 Duo vs AMD Athlon X2 QL-60 Dual Core

Processor Speed A) 2.0GHz 1.9GHZ for B)

** Is there a significant difference? Would I notice performance among these two processor companies? Both are dual core...

Graphic chipsets are for A) Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 vs for B) ATI Radeon HD 3200 RS780M

*Which one is better, more modern?

Integrated WiFi A) Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN vs B) 802.11a/b/g/n

** What's faster?

Video Memory A) 358MB vs B) 1046MB

RAM A) 4GB vs. B) 3GB DDR2

B) Has discrete video memory as well

B) Has an HDMI port and Compliant

Processor Cache A) 2MB L2 vs B) 1MB L2

Similarities

Base Features

Approximate Battery Life 3 Hours

Hard Drive Speed/Capacity 250GB SATA 5400RPM

Optical Drive 8X Super Multi LightScribe DL DVD+/-R/RW

Screen Size 15.4"

Thank you so much for whoever does take the time to help me.

I honestly appreciate it more then you'll know. Big help. Thanks.

  1. From what I saw on the bestbuy website the Intel laptop would be the way to go.  In fact, the only thing that I saw that the AMD laptop beat the Intel one in was the graphics card, however the AMD laptop had what's called "Dedicated Video Memory" which isn't very good for gaming, and a 358MB graphics card for the Intel laptop is plenty more than enough for a 15.5 inch screen.

  2. Do not buy anything with AMD proccessor in it,mostly it is 64 bits and pain in the neck just look for INTEL proccessor Dual cor and dual core2 is available on Intel too..

  3. hi there, The Intel Core 2 Duo is a faster processor when compared to an AMD of equivalent speed, it just happens to be the best out there right now.

Graphics - The ATI one has the edge in performance but neither are all that hot if you want to use it as a games machine but perfect for everyday stuff and the occassional game.

Video Memory - Mostly it just uses up part of the systems main memory anyway so makes not much difference.

Processor Cache - 2MB is a small advantage not huge though.

RAM - 4GB or 3GB, not much in it, as the common versions of XP or Vista are what are called 32 Bit which means it only "sees" 3 or 3.5GB anyway

    Wireless - No difference.

To be honest they both sound great laptops but if they are both the same price with the Intel one being discounted, I would take the Intel one everytime, the processor is simply the best kind of there right now, the only advantage the AMD powered one has is a slightly better graphics chip but, neither of them are going to win any awards for that, like most laptops unless you spend a fortune ;)

    Really hope this helps
