LB Chris Carter may replace Pittsburgh Steelers James Harrison – NFL News
Second year linebacker Chris Carter is likely to replace James Harrison as a starter at outside linebacker position in Pittsburgh Steelers' next preseason game against the visitors Indianapolis Colts on 19th of this month as the team has officially
confirmed that the veteran Harrison has gone under the knife for a minor knee problem.
After a day of speculations, coach Mike Tomlin finally confirmed on Wednesday that they had decided to let Harrison had an arthroscopic surgery on his knee to clean what the player’s agent Bill Parise a day earlier said irritation, which had caused swelling
and pain in the knee.
Mike said:
"We address things as they arise. We felt like the procedure was necessary at this time, so we had it."
With the LB expected to be out recovering from the procedure, he is most likely to miss the regular season opener next month, and this may also pave the way for youngster Chris to be the team’s leader in the game.
The coach said of the chances of early recovery and return of the veteran:
"It shouldn't be long. We'll see when we get him back out here and start the process of working him back."
He did not elaborate on the possibility of Harrison’s comeback by the season opener, which will fall on September 09, about more than three weeks from the linebacker’s operation date of August 15.
A section of media has quoted an anonymous official of the team disclosing that Harrison is uncertain for the season’s starting game. His absence provides Chris an opportunity to prove his potential as a starter.
This will be known to an extent in the preseason’s second game on the weekend. If Chris manages to show off talent and skills, no matter what are the numbers, he is expected to be placed on the starting line straightaway.
Harrison’s ousting for any period of time might also be good news for oppositions’ quarterbacks. The LB is well known in the league for his daring and rough tackles on the offensive players. He has already knocked down about half a dozen of them and sounds
to be equally threatening yet.
