LB Greg Jones sign for Jacksonville Jaguars to replace WR Anthony Armstrong on roster – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed a new defenseman while letting go a wide receiver to accommodate the new signee on the roster and the change has apparently been targeted for forthcoming game versus the Houston Texans in a total American Football Conference
(AFC) South showdown on Sunday (Nov. 18).
As per the information available, the team has signed second year linebacker Greg Jones, although terms of his deal including tenure and value have not been disclosed by either side so far.
The new signees played all games in the regular season and postseason phase with the New York Giants who had selected him as a sixth round draft in 2011.
Jones was cut by reigning Super Bowl champions the Giants in their post-training phase roster consolidation drive. His record of the 2011 season includes 25 tackles and appears to be talented defenseman.
The Jags have failed at all positions this season and failed miserably, but hope Jones’ signing will help them boost their defence to an extent. The team so far have lost all but one game this season, and their only win was a road-game versus the Indianapolis
Colts.
Meanwhile, the Jags have confirmed waiver of wide receiver Anthony Armstrong to accommodate the new signing as per the league rules. The teams cannot have more than 53 players on their respective roster during the season.
Armstrong was working at a backup position and it is difficult to ascertain his potential at a time when the Jags as a team have completely failed.
They are in trouble at the moment and in search of second victory of the season. If they somehow manage to win all games in the rest of the season, they will be able to finish the season strongly. They are certainly out of playoff contention, though.
A particularly disappointing point of their performance is that the team has consistently been performing poorly for last four five seasons. They managed to finish each one of them with four or five wins. This season appears to be even worse for them.
