LB Ray Lewis returns to practice, not in for Baltimore Ravens versus Washington Redskins – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens veteran linebacker Ray Lewis has hit the field for the first time since tearing his triceps in the game against the Dallas Cowboys on October 14, but acknowledged the difficulty in making himself available for the Washington Redskins game
this Sunday (Dec.09).
After doing some light workout, the LB issued a statement saying he was progressing in recovery and refrained from divulging on his return to full action, saying he will talk about it when it happens.
Ray said:
"I'm making progress and will practice some today. But the story shouldn't be about me right now. We're playing the Redskins Sunday, and I am not eligible to play. If I can help prepare my team in some way for that game, I will. When I know I will play in
a game, or when I play in a game, I will say more then."
Everyone was caught by surprise when Lewis said later last month that he was nearing return to the field, recovering ahead of schedule from the triceps injury. Now he has proved he was true to his words.
Earlier, LB Terrell Suggs also staged a surprise a comeback from torn Achilles tendon in October, after missing six weeks in the season.
The Ravens are excited to see Lewis back at the earliest because another injury scare has hit Suggs. Although it is not that threatening, he could miss a week with torn biceps, which he suffered last week in the game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It is pertinent to note that the team is just at edge of the playoffs. They lost last week’s game unexpectedly; otherwise, could have made the playoffs there and then.
Still, they are in control of American Football Conference (AFC) North, well ahead of the Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals, who are their main competitors in the division. The Cleveland Browns are the fourth team in AFC North, lagging far behind them
all.
Lewis is expected to do some more work during Friday’s training session and he might have to say more about his recovery then. Until then the team hopes Suggs is available for the weekend game.
