LB Scott Fujita admits attending New Orleans Saints DC Gregg Williams’ speech -NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ linebacker, Scott Fujita, has made the surprise confession of being part of the audience addressed by former New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, on the covert bounty programme.
Fujita is suspended for three games by the professional league regulator, National Football League (NFL), over his alleged contribution in the illegal reward-for-hit programme.
An inquiry from the NFL unearthed the illegal reward-for-hit programme being run by some of Saints' officials and players at the time Scott was an active player on the team’s roster.
He has denied his involvement in the operation throughout but following a ruling of an arbitrator a couple of days ago approving authority of NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, for suspension of Fujita and other Saints, the player conceded
he was in the room at the time Williams, the mastermind of the programme, urged the team members to hit the San Francisco 49ers players hard and get paid.
Scott said:
“I'm not proud of things that were said by Gregg Williams, and at the same time, he's a man I respect and loved playing for, so there's definitely a conflict with all that."
Yet, he refrained from commenting on the remarks by filmmaker, Sean Pamphilon that Fujita and Saints' quarterback, Drew Brees, pushed him to publically highlight the case through a documentary to clear their names.
He said:
"A lot of things are personal matters, and I'm just going to leave it at that. Sean Pamphilon is a very good filmmaker who absolutely wants to affect positive change when it comes to health and safety in this game, and I absolutely respect
that."
The startling disclosure from Scott has come a day after the player said to be desperate to return to the team and join his teammates.
It was more down to his frustration as a result of the dragging issue of the bounty programme than anything else.
Fujita showed up with his teammates for the first time on Tuesday – the start of the team’s minicamp.
He is yet to serve the three-game ban. He will have to wait for the start of the 2012 season to do that.
