LB Terrell Suggs defends Baltimore Ravens slide in league defence ranking – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, who recently returned to action from a partially torn Achilles tendon, has defended the slide of the team’s defence ranking from top-10 in last nine years to 30th position this season as a phase of transition
coupled with some unexpected injury scares.
At the same time, he has rued the loss of defenseman Ray Lewis, and deemed it a catastrophic choice to let the player go unceremoniously by the Ravens.
He said this during his appearance on the NFL Networks a day earlier where he also reiterated his vow to aim for wins for the team for the sake of his own career.
Terrell said:
"There's no word, really, in the English dictionary that can describe how important this man is to this team and this city. Losing him was catastrophic, and it's going to be hard to fill that void."
Suggs has recently returned to action after spending about half a year on the sidelines due to Achilles tendon injury, which he suffered during the offseason in a controversial manner. His comeback has surprised many, including his colleagues given the seriousness
of the injury and setback attached to its recovery.
The player insisted that was what he had been telling to the media all along that he aimed to return by November no matter what happened, and he has returned earlier than that.
He said he was ready to show-off his skills and to an extent compensate for the senior players on the defensive line. If he is able to perform up to his potential this should come as good news for the Ravens because they were badly in need for a senior player
who could lead the young crop of defensemen from the front.
Although his first game was not that impressive, he made the point that he was fit and ready to play football, proving the critics, who had doubted his sooner comeback from the injury, wrong.
Coach John Harbaugh, who had earlier questioned the ability of the player to stage a speedy return, has backed him to perform well in rest of the season.
