LB Tracy Porter joins Denver Broncos in free agency - NFL News
Defensive cornerback, Tracy Porter, wants a fresh start after signing for the Denver Broncos as a free agent from the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints who are currently embroiled in a bounty scandal and received one of the harshest punishments ever handed down by the National Football League (NFL) did not extend the contract of the cornerback, with the Broncos picking up the 25-year-old.
The move to Denver puts Porter together with quarterback Peyton Manning.
Manning’s bid for a second Super Bowl title was denied by the cornerback who intercepted his pass and rushed 74-yards for a touchdown that helped the Saints lift their first and only Super Bowl championship.
The defenseman talking to the media said that he had met with Manning but did not touch the subject of the interception just yet.
"I'm sure (the interception) will eventually come up. First visit, I wanted to find out where each other's focus was, as far as helping this club win."
Adding further he said that the Broncos have put together a team that could make the Super Bowl.
“I think this team definitely has the qualities to get back to the championship. That’s something I want to be a part of and help make happen.”
The Saints bounty scandal though still follows him to Denver, but Porter wants to forget about the entire thing.
“I don't know if they brought it to any players or not, but I was not one of them. The only thing I can do is focus on free agency and moving on, you know, to get in the best situation for myself. I did that by coming to Denver."
The Saints have been punished heavily for running an illegal bounty program with massive fines and suspensions handed out.
The franchise also lost its second round draft picks for two years in addition to losing head coach Sean Payton for a year after he was suspended by the league.
Porter though claims to not have anything to do with the scheme and said that he was not involved in the slightest.
However, he went on to add that he is not the right person to say whether the league made the right call or not.
The Broncos will hope that Porter will this time help Manning claim a second Super Bowl title as they prepare for the new 2012-13 season.
