Question:

LCD TVs. Do top brands like Sony, Samsung make LCD TVs for any other company.?

Whist having a conversation in a local pub someone said if you buy Proline LCD or some other brand I have never heard of it is cheaper and is just a sony or samsung only with a diferent brand name. Does anyone know if there is any truth in the matter.

  1. There are only 2 companies that make LCD displays/TV (Phillips/LG), they sell the basic LCD systems to all other companies.

    The other companies then write there firmware (Software on the TV) to customise them for there own needs.

    So the basic LCD systems come from just two sources.


  2. Well some companys dont actually make the lcd screens. Just the cases etc etc.   So some top brand and low brand tvs basically have the same components just different design.

  3. ok there is more than one factory that produce flat panels but the companies involved in each have no association with each other

    philips and LG produce from one factory

    sony and samsung produce from another

    hitachi are the only company in the world to produce its own panels

    although all of these companies do co own these factories and out source to each other they have no association with each other! each set is completely different in its own right as you can get different quality panels be it LCD or plasma
