Question:

LCD Widescreen question?

I need your help on this one. I have a 32" but I find all the screen modes appalling. If I go on 14:9, the picture is fine but it does not use all the 32 inch, leaves a black space. If I go on Cinema it zooms in and I don't get much of a picture and if I go on Super Live it stretches the people and makes them look fat.

However, if I play my PS3 with HDMI the widescreen is perfectly adjusted. Is there anyway I can adjust normal television to get it looking fine. Help really appreciated on this one.

  1. First question: Do you have Comcast Digital Cable? If so, is the box black or silver? The black box is not HD-compatible. Second question: Are you using Component Cables or an HDMI cable? Standard coaxial cables (black with s***w-on ends) do not work properly  with HD television. HDMI cables are only 5% better than Component Cables and are much more expensive. Anyway, certain broadcast signals can only be displayed properly in standard 4:3 LETTER BOX or 4:3 PAN SCAN mode. Selecting other types of screen sizes will cause the TV to resize the image to fit the screen. This WILL cause visual distortion and image display problems. If the picture looks distorted, try watching it in "Side Bar" or "standard" mode. Although this mode will put two black bars on either side of the screen, the overall image should be unaltered. I don't know if this answers your question, but if it doesn't, you may want to consider returning the TV from where you had purchased it as the TV may be defective. Have your receipt with you as you WILL need it for an exchange. By the way, 16:9 is Widescreen mode. What is 14:9? I never heard of that. I have a 32" LCD (720p) Sylvania and the screen sizes are:

Side Bar, Full, Wide, Zoom, Expand, and Cinema.
