LCR Honda rider Toni Elias happy with tenth position finish in Assen GP – MotoGP news
LCR Honda rider Toni Elias is content with his tenth place finish at the Iveco TT Assen Grand Prix in Netherlands recently.
Elias will now head to Mugello for 2011 season’s eighth MotoGP event with determination to score even better position on the race day.
LCR Honda rider, Toni Elias said, “As I said many times already this is not the position I was dreaming of, but considering the rear grip issues and these difficult asphalt conditions I am very satisfied about this race. I took another good start from the
last row finishing the first lap in 9th position.”
Elias further said, “Suddenly Abraham crashed in front of me and I risked crashing into him, so I lost a couple of seconds there. If the race would have been wet I could have fought for a better position but I cannot complain now.”
The team is still learning different settings for dry conditions as the previous races have been held under rain. It is yet to see the weather in Mugello, Italy and the kind of strategy to be used there.
The Spaniard’s tenth place finish is relevantly better if compared to his rivals. His fellow satellite Honda rider, Kousuke Akiyoshi at the San Carlo Honda Gresini team was way slow and finished at 13th place in the race. Elias and Akiyoshi are
the only two riders to race with the satellite Honda RCV this season.
After the fall of Akiyoshi’s teammate Marco Simoncelli from the top position fight, the Italian suffered for his extreme passion to win the race. His fall also hooked Jorge Lorenzo to drop out from the victory fight.
However, both managed to restart the race and Simoncelli finished at just ninth place ahead of Toni Elias despite the slippery and tough conditions.
Alvaro Bautista and Hector Barbera finished behind Elias at 11th and 12th places respectively.
