LCR Honda signs Moto2 world champion Stefan Bradl in two season deal – MotoGP news
LCR Honda team has signed current Moto2 World Champion, Stefan Bradl for a two-year contract for MotoGP.
The German rider will be stepping up into premier class in the 2012 MotoGP season and will continue until 2013. Bradl will be racing aboard Honda RC213V, a 1000cc prototype.
The next season is very crucial for the MotoGP, as it marks the return of 1000cc machines and some changes in regulations will be applied. The new Claiming Rule Teams category will spice up competition, with several new contenders.
The season will hit start from the first official pre-season test outing at Sepang, Malaysia. The inaugural race is due on April 15, 2012 at Losail circuit, Qatar.
Team Manager for LCR Honda, Lucio Cecchinello was impressed by the German rider, when he tested the RC212V during the official post-race test session at Ricardo Tormo circuit, Valencia.
Previously the LCR team has finished the 2011 season in 15th place with rider, Toni Elias. The Spanish rider endured an unlucky season, costing the team rough rider through the year.
After the departure of Elias, the team was left with several options and Bradl seemed to be the most eligible among all.
Lucio Cecchinello said, “Together with Honda we have considered several riders, and Stefan was one of our candidates. After the Test in Valencia we were very impressed by his potential and his determination.”
He further added that the German rider is young and competitive. He has just earned the world title for 2012 Moto2 class.
He has been a good rider during the two-day test session at Valencia and now he is a full time racer for the team.
Stefan Bradl commented, “This is simply fantastic, like a dream come true! When I tested the RC212V in Valencia I realised that LCR Team is very professional and well organised so I am sure they will do their best to support me. Making my debut in the premier
class aboard the RC213V is great and I cannot wait to get back on track.”
The German rider was pleased to sign a two-year contract for the premier class racing. He has been consistent during the season. Though he did not win many races but he has been able to frequently take podium finishes.
