LDS: Have you ever had conflicting answers to prayer?

I'm sure many people will think this is a stupid example but,

I was praying like 4 months ago about McCain vs. Obama and who would lead this country in a better direction. Or maybe it was "who should I vote for?" or "who would be better for this country"

Whatever, the point is. I felt McCain would be a better candidate.

Now the other night after the RNC I prayed about it and felt like I should vote for Obama and was really happy to feel this way, cause I'm more excited about him, or maybe intellectually he makes more sense to me.

Am I the only one that gets conflicting answers?

  1. i never get answers to my prayers

  2. Just read the Bible or the Book of Mormon and it will let you know what is going on in life

  3. Mormons are famous for "a burning in the bosom" or "feelings".

If God speaks to you, you will have no doubts.

  4. I don't think you can go to God and ask "what should I do", etc. - I think He wants us to already have our decision made, then ask if that is the right one.  He isn't just going to say "do this", I don't think.

Sometimes too, I don't think there is only 'one' right answer.  Like I have prayed before about jobs, and I would think "Ok, this job would be really good for me, I want it."  Then not get it.  I don't think my prayer wasn't answered, but that it just wasn't the job for me...

I don't think I get conflicting answers about the things that *really* matter.  Some things that I don't think have any eternal consequence, we might just have to figure out.

  5. I think pinkadot was right. I would like to add that if you read the book of mormon you will find many unworthy leaders who had their moment of power among the people. As far as our candidates for president I expect God wants us to do our best choosing which one will be best for our country. This is your choice not one God should make for you. He knows in advance which one should be the president but you must decide yourself which one you think is right and live with that choice. I expect which ever one gets in he will use to the advantage of this country no matter what we think.

  6. The opposite of getting a confirmation is getting a stupor of thought.  I could care less about who you want to elect, but if you ponder and pray and you do not get a clear impression, that idea is probably wrong for you.

8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.

9 But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong; therefore, you cannot write that which is sacred save it be given you from me.

  7. Prayer is talking with God, letting him lead you to a better more fulfilling life. As for politics or earthly things, you should know who you should vote for by his character.

  8. I'm not a Christian, but...

You're praying for the wrong reasons. This is the mistake everyone makes, praying for selfish reasons. I understand it's for our country and everything, but it's still selfish. You go and vote, you don't pray for an answer.

Honestly, Obama is my choice. He's the better candidate, gonna bring back the troops and give international health care, which means people won't go broke after paying a hospital bill. He's a nice guy.

  9. for one, its not about the person but their principles and ideology, praying wouldn't get anywhere if you don't even know what they want.

  10. That isn't the way prayer works.  First, we must study it out in our minds.  Then we must choose according to our knowledge.  Then we ask if our choice is correct.  If we ask sincerely, with true intent, then the Lord will answer our prayer through the power of the Holy Ghost.  If you ask the same question after you have already received an answer, you may not get an additional answer.
