a lot of wards are doing that now and it's a great way for the missions to save money. It is working very well here.

  1. Kind of, I live in a fairly old community for the west coast- Many homes are from the 1890's.  Most of those homes have Carriage Houses that have been converted into mother in law homes or additional living space on top of a garage on the property.  Our missionaries get to stay in one of these.

It seems like a nice mix according to them.  They get to live with a family a couple hundred feet away, but also get to live on their own.  They dont have to bother the family when they come and go, but they do get to be around a family.

Their place is nice though, its probably about 1000 square feet, it has a kitchen, a bathroom, 2 bedrooms (one is used as an office), a dining room, etc...  The place is cool.

  2. I live in the Salt Lake City area, and while there are missionaries assigned to our stake, they currently live in a non member basement apartment....

  3. In my ward we do not. The missionaries live in an apartment but i do believe that someone from my ward owns that apartment complex in which they live in so i am sure that they get a huge discount. We do however and i believe that it goes in the wards in the stake get a chance to feed the missionaries quite often.

  4. My parent's mission is starting to do it (Baltimore, MD).  The church is looking into it in cities where rent prices have gone through the roof due to the housing inflation.  In fact, my parents have been approached about using their home by their bishop for the local sister missionaries.  But due to the fact that both my parents travel a lot, it raised the problem of what about when Mom's gone and it'd just be dad and the sisters.  So, they have to wall off their basement, so that the missionaries would be in a completely seperated apartment.  They're also installing a kitchen; the basement already has a seperate entrance and bathroom.  It'll make a nice sized two-bedroom apartment where the church can house two sets of missionaries.  And since it's kind of a calling, the church will reimburse my parents for water and electricity, but not have to pay any rent.

  5. In other parts of the World some missionaries are living in members home.  We had missionaries living in our home, I grew up with missionaries, until certain age, then missionaries were not allowed to live in my home........We eventually grew up and moved away from our home...so them my mom while on her mission she rented our home to the church to be converted into a chapel....LOL!!!

  6. Yes our ward does

  7. Perhaps you are a TEST AREA again then because as far as I know this is no longer ALLOWED for obvious reasons I think.

  8. Yes we have two sister Missionaries living in a members home.

  9. Not yet.  That's an interesting idea though.  There would have to be a Priesthood holder there, so I wouldn't be qualified to house them.

  10. The missionaries who cover my ward cover a whole bunch of other wards as well. They live in the home of a member in one of those other wards.

I think it's great- save money, give the missionaries the opportunity to interact and get to know the member families better, give the member family an opportunity to earn more blessings.

  11. Yes, we do have that.

    gw

  12. currently ours are in an apartment and they have dinner at the homes of the members. We had the missionaries over on Sunday evening. We had homemade chicken soup and HUGE root beer floats. These nice young men went away full!

One of our missionaries has been out about 6 weeks - talk about a "greenie."

Years ago they lived with a family.
