In the book, The Miracle of Forgiveness (1991?) written by LDS Church Apostle and later President Spencer W. Kimball. He talks about Elder Patten a mormon apostle, as his confrontation with Bigfoot (in 1838) and that he said he was Cain and that he rebuked him in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by virtue of the Holy Priesthood, and commanded him to go hence, and he immediately departed out of my sight...That "a very remarkable person who had represented himself as being Cain." Cover with hair, and tall, and miserable, and couldn't die and a wanderer....

I myself remember hearing this "idea" from my ex father in law who is mormon...

So if a mormon leader said he saw him and believes he is cain, do you? (LDS)

  1. Wow. Wow. Bigfoot is Cain? Wow. Do...do they just say anything? And believe it?

  2. No

I've heard individuals speculate over this, however, there is no LDS doctrine regarding Bigfoot.

  3. He was a referencing a story he had heard and was explaining it.  And I dont' think it's in Miracle of Forgiveness, I think it's in Jesus the Christ.  Let me look...

    ADD:

Okay, I found it.  The story is recounted in the "Miracle of Forgiveness" on page 127, but originates from "Life of David W. Patten" by Lycurgus A. Wilson on page 50.

Bro. Patten was one of the original 12 apostles of the restored church in the latter days and was a martyr at the Battle of Crooked River during times of heavy persecution of the LDS in Missouri.

Here is the full story as related in a letter by Abraham O. Smoot, where he gave a recollection of Bro. Patten's meeting with "a very remarkable person who had represented himself as being Cain":

"“As I was riding along the road on my mule I suddenly noticed a very strange personage walking beside me. He walked along beside me for about two miles. His head was about even with my shoulders as I sat in my saddle. He wore no clothing, but was covered with hair. His skin was very dark. I asked him where he dwelt and he replied that he had no home, that he was a wanderer in the earth and traveled to and fro. He said he was a very miserable creature, that he had earnestly sought death during his sojourn upon the earth, but that he could not die, and his mission was to destroy the souls of men. About the time he expressed himself thus, I rebuked him in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by virtue of the Holy Priesthood, and commanded him to go hence, and he immediately departed out of my sight...”

Pres. Kimball references this account in "The Miracle of Forgiveness" when discussing the heinous sin of murder and discussing two examples from the bible of murderers (Cain and David) and the punishments they endure for their sins.  He does not ever claim the figure seen was Big Foot.  Nor do we know if the person that Bro. Patten saw was a physical or spiritual manifestation.

I did hear the relating of this instance to Big Foot when I was a child in primary by another primary child.  But I have never met an adult member of the church that thinks this was Big Foot.

  4. NOPE

you should listen to what Ed Dames says bigfoot is! a holographic image with mass and weight.

i have always believed that bigfoot is real because there are too many testimonies.

this last month i heard what ed dames (remote veiwer said) said.

all my beliefs of bigfoot came to a halt.

one thing to remember is that every prophet has spoken words that are not words of God, but their own commentary. these words are not the words of God so i dont believe its true.

i am always guilty of speaking my own belief system and almost never speaking the words of God.

  5. Hmmmm...I have that book and I don't remember reading that Bigfoot was mentioned. I'll have to go back and look again. But in answer to your question No, I do not believe that Bigfoot is Cain. I'm not convinced there even is a bigfoot but that is an entirely different debate.

  6. Who else would that be? He'd have to be ten feet tall to be even with a man riding a horse, and he was naked and hairy. It was Bigfoot. Crazy story, and I don't believe it.

  7. What a tangled web we weave...

  8. I believe that Big Foot can be real.

I also believe that Patten was making a reference to Bit Foot being a "wanderer" like Cain was....I doubt he means that Big Foot is the person Cain...since, you know, he's dead.

  9. Wow, you have GOT to stop with the extra hot tacos before bed time!!

I doubt seriously that you or your ex FIL ever read the book. Cause I did and NONE of that c**p was in it.

  10. I believe so yes. But its not church doctrine.
