!!LEATHER COUCHES- are they durable with two dogs and two cats??

My mom is getting a couch and chair in a light leather- is it durable? Will it get torn up by their nails???

My mom told me to get a leather couch, because my kitten likes to scratch up everything. Leather is less tempting for a cat because it isn't as fun to scratch as fabric. I know they have a spray at Petco to keep cats away from your furnature, they hate the smell. You can put a throw blanket for your dog to sit on, if you leave it there it can be the dogs spot if you train it. It's good as far as stains though, and wont smell like cats or dogs, like fabric can.
