Why are they so expensive to install?

because in most places they are actually illegal. not many people where i am have them as they can get their car taken away. it's a distraction to other drivers.

Supply and demand.

Only young children want them and not many places will install.

So they charge what they want. What can you do ? Not many places have them.

If they weren't tacky or served a purpose , more people would want them , and the cost would go down because more places would sell them creating competition.

Here in the U.S. they are legal , as long as they are not blue (police only) and don't flash.

Unless specific new laws have been passed.

300 sounds about right for an install. There is a considerable amount of labor involved.

I would try to convince you to spend your money on other things , but when I was young I put a pin stripe " heartbeat " down the side windows of my car.

In retrospect it was silly , but at the time it seemed necessary
