LET Order of Merit: Caroline Masson needs more than just strong finish

German Caroline Masson, who has given a miss to the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012, is all set for the final battle at Omega Dubai Ladies Masters in Dubai scheduled for early next
month.
In Dubai, Masson can snap up the opportunity to win the Order of Merit for the 2012 season, but she will need more than just a win in order to achieve that goal.
Since she will not be taking part in Indian Open, set to kick off from November 30, at New Delhi, India, her biggest rival Spanish Carlota Ciganda is definitely looking to make the most of
her absence.
Masson has been in tough competition with Ciganda on the LET (Ladies European Tour) money list, as the latter is currently standing at the number one position at the ISPS Handa Order of Merit.
Masson is trailing the Spanish star, having earned over a hefty 210,831 euro—but she will not just need a win to cross Ciganda’s current 232,656, she will also want her rival to finish poor
both in India and Dubai.
Ciganda has already vowed to further solidify her position at the Order of Merit, saying she is relieved to see Masson out of the Hero Women’s Indian Open.
More importantly, she is wary of the German star as she said in her latest interview that if she fails to pull off a big finish, and her rival manages to finish strong in Dubai, she could
be in big trouble.
Given her past performance, Masson appears to be in a comfortable position, but the final battle will be featuring almost all the top-ranked LET contenders, making it hard to record a win.
After she grabbed a title at the South African Women’s Open by posting an overall 215, her fans’ expectations spiralled and she is now being regarded as the strongest LET contender for the
season.
However, her aspiration to win the Order of Merit had been obvious even before she racked up the title in South Africa.
She had expressed her ambitious during the Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters 2012 in June, saying she wanted to rise to the top of the money list.
