LET Q School: Nina Holleder fires 68 in first round
Amateur Nina Holleder of Germany got off to a stellar start at the final stage of Lalla Aicha Tour School 2013, as she registered a 68 in the first round to grab the share of fourth position
along with 8 other contenders.
It was an electrifying performance in every sense, because Holleder was not expected to put pressure on rivals early in the tournament. However, the German star appears to have beaten the
odds as far as the first round is concerned.
The final stage of the LET (Ladies European Tour) Q School is being staged at prestigious Amelkis Golf Club, Morocco, but a heavy presence of professional contenders has made the event even
more challenging to young guns like Holleder.
Holleder kicked off the round on the back nine, which helped her make a fast start. She parred the 10th and 11th hole and drained a birdie on the difficult par-3 12th.
Having parred the 13th and 14th, the German star carded two straight birdies to take her score to a 33.
On the front nine, Holleder looked a bit jittery as she made errors on some holes. She parred the first two holes and launched another birdie on the difficult par-3 third.
She, however, could not judge her putt on the greens of the 5th hole, posting a bogey.
Holleder is not the only amateur doing her best in the 141-player field of Q School. Maria Salinas of Peru stunned rivals after she shot a 66 to take the second position along with Aussie
Nikki Campbell.
Swedish Isabella Ramsay outperformed every contender in the lineup as she posted a 65 to seize the solo lead on the leaderboard. Ramsay is not new to events like this as she has been playing
professional golf since 2006, and knows how to tackle pressure in tough conditions.
Speaking to the media about what got her going in the first round, Ramsay said that she knew she would be able to pull off an impressive show on Thursday as she had a solid game plan.
Her short game was also perfect, helping her reel off 8 birdies. “When you play good it looks so easy! My driving was okay and everything was okay. I am happy,” Ramsay added.
