Gray Bear is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country and is engulfed with lofty snow peaks and sprawling greens amidst of deciduous forest. The €350,000 event will be held for the second time in continuation and leading European players will
be pitched to clinch the top spot on the LET.
Spain’s María Hernández is expected to be back to defend the title she won last year. Hernández, who hails from Pamplona, won last year’s inaugural event by taking over Australian Kristie Smith with a one-stroke victory. It was also the first event win for
the player on the LET, that also coming in her debut year on the Tour.
“All I want to do is play my best and see what happens at the end of the week. I’m not trying to win, I’m just trying to play every day the best I can and at the end of the round, we count the score for four days,” Hernández said.
For the 25-year-old Spaniard, it will be special to return to the venue where she won her first mainstream event and she will be eyeing the top slot yet again. She has performed splendidly in the recent season, though not wining an event, but overtook many
of the big guns of the tour when she finished seventh at the European Nations Cup and a joint 15th at the ANZ RACV Ladies Masters.
Melissa Reid, the strong English golfer, is also crouching to launch a win any moment on the tour. Reid has had a strong season so far, where she finished tied for second at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open and two top five finishes in three events
on the tour. 23-year-old Reid is one of the most promising golfers and is currently ranked 42nd on the Rolex World Rankings.
European golf’s veteran star, Trish Johnson is staging a comeback on the tour after her staggering 17 wins on the tour.  The 45-year-old Johnson is one of the most celebrated golfers in Europe. She has also won three times on the LPGA.
Home grown talent, Zuzana Kamasova will be the hope of the local crowd as she will launch her bid for the top slot this week. Kamasova will prove to be a tough contender for the 126-player field as she will come with precious knowledge of the course.
“From my perspective as a player, Gray Bear Golf Course is a very challenging golf course and you need your overall game. You cannot just hit it anywhere,” Kamasova said. “You do get your breaks but you have to play smart. I think for a player and us professionals,
we like challenges. I think it’s a good tournament, challenging golf course, good prize money.”
33-year-old Kamasova hails from Bratislava and won her maiden title on the Lalla Meryem Cup at Golf du Soleil in Morocco last month. She is also the first player from Slovakia to win on the tour.
