I have a 75 gal tank that is cycled and ready for fish. It is august and I am going to put native fish in it ( pumpkin seeds " sunfish" and bluegills) what is the maximum size I should get to ensure the fish will acclimate to tank life.

Tip-- there are no fry this time of year in this area

  1. some pet centers actually sell native fish. then you don't have to take from the environment. look into that before you take away some little boy or girls chance at catching ththeir first fish.

  2. As small as possible.  Say, 2-3".  You should be able to catch small ones on dry flies.  I've used imitation mosquitos and done great.

  3. you better check with your game and fish department the only state that allows for native fish without a special permit is minnisota

if your state will allow it I would sujest you change 75 percent of the water in your tank with water from whereever it is you get them from and due to the sizes pumpkinseeds can get the 75 gallon tank would only handle 2 or three at most
