LG DLP projection?

i got a new television after giving up on the old one. while this new t.v. has a 6 month warranty, i am curious about what could be wrong with it, and it being sunday, the shop is unavailable.

so, i turn the television on, and within 15 minutes, the picture will freeze, and turn into a fuzzy black and white picture. no movement, but the audio still continues.

it has been happening since last night, and can usually be remedied by turning the television off, and turning it back on, but its only temporary. withing 15 minutes, it will again repeat the symptom. i have tried unplugging it, and leaving it overnight. no luck.

i wiped the dust off the fan that cools down the bulb, and wiped the fan to the motherboard. no luck.

about an half an hour ago, i took the back completely off, and moved the set away from the wall.

so far so good... however, still wondering what happened with it....

  1. If the back is still off the set this may indicate a problem and the TV should be exchanged.  But DLP sets need to breathe so if you had it all the way against the wall that could be the only problem.  DLP is basically an imaging system which needs a bright light to make it work.  That bright light gets very hot.  So the fan has to run to keep it cooler.  Lack of air circulation causes early failure of that lamp.  And that lamp needs to be replaced a lot over the life of the set.  So allow the set to breathe by keeping it away from the wall and outside of any enclosed spaces while it is turned on.  And clean the set according to the manufacturer's instructions.
