Question:

LGBT: What did you think of Gov. Sarah Palin's speech, as she was introduced as McCain's VP pick?

She alluded to Hillary's camp, saying that the Hillary people thought they didn't have a choice, but now that she's there, they now have a choice, and a chance to break the "ceiling" (read: male bias in Washington) to be the first female VP of the USA.

I find this incredibly insulting, that the Republicans think that all they needed to get Hillary's votes is to present a woman, any woman, and that should be good enough to swing votes their way. (To be clear, Palin did this to herself, by making that direct comparison in her speech, so this isn't some "attack" on her, she said those things herself. Watch her speech.)

I'm sure that some voters will vote on the basis of race/s*x ("I'll vote him/her because s/he's black/female"), but to think that she is a surrogate and a substitute for Hillary seems to be the height of audacity for Palin to claim, it negates the fact that Hillary, who outranked Bill as one of the top 100 lawyers of the USA, has had much experience and knowledge regarding running affairs of the state, and that just because "I'm another woman", that should be the deciding factor to vote for her?!?

I find this to be an incredible insult! Do let me know what you think.

  1. McCain is an idiot and Palin is a joke.  She has virtually NO experience and she is just a face for McCain to use to his advantage, she wasn't picked because she was anything above below average.  She freaking lives in alaska for gods sake.  Not that alaska is bad but that is far from the US and she has no idea what she is doing and is a disgrace to the VP spot.  Obama has the women vote already because hilary is backing him up.  Most republicans aren't going to want to elect a women as a VP anyways.

  2. Right now, McCain is doing everything he can to win.

According to the statistics of the election progress: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/...

McCain is losing and he's very desperate. He's picking a woman for Vice because like you said, it attracts Hillary's fans and plus she said she is neutral on g*y issues. So he might be trying to get LGBT's votes also.

McCain for the most part, doesn't have a problem with LGBT people, but he did say he is not going to fight for their rights. He believes LGBT should be treated equally, but that no laws are needed to enforce it. (Sounds like a crock of c**p if you ask me)

I don't think McCain is getting in. His views parallel Bush's too much, and I happen to know many republicans who are voting for Obama because they do not want to see our nation go through what it has been going through the last 8 years. I also know many people who are homophobic that supported Obama, but after I told them that Obama is for LGBT rights, they quickly decided to vote for McCain.

People may argue, but there is no doubt in my mind that Obama is getting in. Maybe some will vote for the wrong reasons (I know black people voting because they want to see a black president), but I definitely think he should get in. Not only for his stance on LGBT issues, but for other reasons as well.

If McCain were by some chance be fully supportive of LGBT rights and try to enforce them, I still wouldn't vote for him. If he gets in, then we're screwed.

  3. She's against g*y rights and opposes separation of church and state, so really, I try not to even think about her.

  4. i found this out from my band director but i don't care for her because whatever she does mccaine isn't going to win.

  5. This sounds like a desperate ploy for attention, doesn't it?

I heard someone express an opinion on National Public Radio, a person said that "All the democrats have to do is have a live breathing candidate to win this election! They are very lucky that there are TWO very qualified good choices for president! There is no way the democrats can lose this election." (That was when Hillary Clinton and Obama were competing for the Democratic nomination for President.)

I think people are fed up with Bush and the republican party for this election year!

It's too bad that I also heard that Obama (or Whoever is elected president) would have to spend the first four years just cleaning up after the former President Bush's mess! I heard that the next President would not be able to show any substantial "change" unless he was re elected for the next four years!!

    What a mess!
