i take the swim test tomorrow morning... 300 meter swim and retrieving a 10lb brick from the bottom of the pool and swimming 20 m back. do you have any tips for the brick part? i'm kind of worried that my endurance will be shot because the brick test is immediately after the 300 m swim.

i wanted to practice my swimming and stuff before the test, but i wasnt able to get much practice in beacuse my city had a terrible terrible flood last week and everything has been closed/ruined. (im taking the lifeguard class in another city)_

  1. There is no time limit on the 300 meter swim, so feel free to take it a little slower so that you will have enough energy for the brick. Position yourself over the brick and then go straight down to the bottom and pick the brick up. It is much easier to lay on your back and position the brick over your hips (because this is the most buoyant part of your body) and then kick the distance. You are required to hold the brick out of the water with two hands so being on your back is the easiest.

  2. hey i just finished lifeguard training yesterday :)

the 300 swim was easy and there is no time limit. The 10 lb brick difficulty relates to your swimming ability. The more comfortable you are in the water, the easier the brick test is. At my class, the time limit was 1:40. Everyone except one person made it. If you're nervous, sprint down the lane when you're going to pick up the brick because it will save you time.

    I wouldn't worry it's not that bad.

The written tests were a lot harder for me, though, but everyone's different.

    Best of luck,

    swim chick

  3. take your time. i took the test last week and i'm not a good swimmer. if u take ur time you wont run out of energy. or you could just swim.
