Auckland Aces put up an inspirational show in their Champions League Twenty20 – Qualifying Pool B match against Somerset played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 as they posted a formidable total of 125
runs on the board while batting first.
After losing their opening game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last night, the Auckland Aces looked like a team with a mission for redemption as they wanted to post maximum runs on the board after winning the toss.
However, once again they had a disastrous start to their innings when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181. At the time of this wicket, Aces had managed to post only eight
runs on the board.
Then on the penultimate delivery of the third over, the Somerset skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991 trapped Robert Quiney right in front of stumps causing the batsman to be given leg-before wicket after knocking only four runs off the bat,.
Then in the next over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980 after scoring nine runs was caught by Hildreth off the bowling of Trego. With 14 for three, this was surely a testing moment for the Aces as they needed to take control of the situation to counter the Somerset offensive
which was ripping the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 club to bits and pieces.
However, it was the phenomenal batting from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GJ-Hopkins-c1490 which actually prevented a complete meltdown for the Aces as the two batsmen countered the bowling offensive that had left them in ruins.
The two batsmen played shots all around the park as they exhibited tremendous form with the bat by toying with the opposition. However, in the 11th over the skipper after smashing 22 runs, was run-out, when the team had managed to post 63 runs
on the board.
Vincent, nonetheless, showed superb form as he remained unbeaten after smacking 47 runs and played a vital role in helping his side post a tally of 125 runs.
Somerset will now have to bat with care if they want to win the game as the Aces have some fine bowlers in their ranks capable to wreaking havoc on any batting side on a given day.
