LIVE – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 – 2nd Test – Australia all out for 136 – Match Update
Australia were all out for 136 runs against New Zealand in the second Test of the two match series at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart in Australia on Saturday, December 10, 2011.
This gave a slender lead of 14 runs to the tourists, who were earlier dismissed for 150 runs in their first innings.
The wicket in Hobart is normally good for the batsmen, but things are completely different this time around. There is a lot of grass on the pitch and the bowlers have been getting extravagant movement.
Australia started day two of the match with one wicket down for 12 runs on the board. Phil Hughes was the batsman to be dismissed yesterday after scoring just four runs.
Conditions were difficult today as well and the Aussie opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 was unable to make an impression. He scored 15 runs with the help of one boundary before being dismissed.
Veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 also seemed uncomfortable against the seaming conditions and was trapped leg-before-wicket after adding just five runs to the total.
He was followed by Pakistani-born http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729, who managed seven runs off 51 deliveries before finally getting caught behind.
Stylish middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 was the next victim of the Kiwi bowlers, as he was sent back to the pavilion after scoring eight runs. The veteran batsman has been out of form for quite some time and needs one big innings to regain confidence.
Next to go was wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 who collected just five runs in his short stay at the wicket.
Australia’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 looked good, but only managed to contribute 22 runs to the total. His dismissal saw the home side struggling at 75/7.
However, a fighting knock of 36 runs from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197 helped the team reduce the first innings deficit to 14 runs before Australia were all out for 136.
New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394 bagged three wickets each in the innings.
This has made the game interesting, as there are more than three days of play still left and a result is on the cards.
The home team leads the series by 1-0 and will look to clinch it by winning the ongoing match, but the current situation suggests that anything might happen.
