LIVE – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 v South Africa: 1st Test – Jacques Rudolph dismissed early – Match Update
South Africa’s opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 on Thursday, November 10, 2011.
The stylish left-handed batsman scored 18 runs off 29 balls with the help of one boundary, but was undone by a beautiful in-dipper from Australia’s pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330.
The ball was angled away from the batsman, but moved in after pitching on good length. Rudolph attempted a defensive shot, but there was plenty of space between the bat and pads, allowing the ball to sneak through.
Although the seam movement was not significant, it was more than enough to dodge the batsman. The ball crashed on top of the off-stump and the returning South African batsman had to take a long walk back to the pavilion.
The 30-year-old batsman has been recalled to the side after a long gap of five years. He had an impressive run in Test cricket after making his debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in 2003. He has played 35 matches, scoring five centuries and eight half-centuries.
However, the solid batsman was dropped from the side following some inconsistent performances against Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2006. He now has an opportunity to cement his spot in the side once again.
Rudolph has replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Petersen-c1028 in the squad and will now be eying a good show in the second innings of the match. He has been scoring some big runs in domestic cricket and will be eager to translate his form at the international level.
However, the stylish batsman might not get an opportunity to bat again in the ongoing match against Australia.
The tourists were bowled out for 284 runs in their first innings and the South African side will try and post a big total in their first outing in order to win the match by an innings. If this happens, Rudolph will have to wait for the second match to score
some runs.
However, Australia’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 will be confident of bowling the opposition out early and post a challenging total in the second innings. He will have to be patient in the field and use his bowlers carefully to take wickets.
