Sri Lanka’s promising young all-rounder Angelo Mathews has completed his maiden Test match century against Australia in the Final Test of the three-match series at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo on Monday, September 19, 2011.
Mathews has been scoring runs with consistency against the Aussie side, but was unable to reach three figures once in his impressive outings. He did not miss out this time around and ended with an unbeaten 105 runs with the help of 10 boundaries.
The solid effort from the youngster helped the hosts take a useful first innings lead of 157 runs against the opposition. This is the first real opportunity for the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 to put some pressure on the visitors.
Prior to the final Test of the series, the home team has been on the struggling side. They started off their campaign positively; winning two Twenty20 games against the Cameron White led Australian side.
However, things were completely different during the five-match One Day International (ODI) and the three-match Test series.
