LIVE http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 vs. Bangladesh: Kangaroos steady after losing early wickets
Australia got off to a decent start in their first game of the three-match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Bangladesh.
The visitors had reached 122 for the loss of 3 wickets at the end of 25 overs.
Bangladesh’s captain Shakib-Al-Hasan elected to field first after winning the toss. The decision came as a surprise for everyone, as the wicket looked good for batting. Australian skipper Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 was happy to bat first and said that he would have
done the same had the coin rolled in his favour.
All-rounder Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 and wicketkeeper batsman Brad Haddin opened the innings for their team. The pair can be really dangerous against any opposition if they get going. However, Saturday was not a good day for them as Haddin was sent back to the pavilion
early after scoring 10 runs off 11 balls.
Haddin was undone by a slower delivery by veteran Bangladesh bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917. The aggressive batsman advanced down the pitch and made room for himself in order to play an attacking shot, but the ball missed his bat and crashed into the middle stump.
This brought the former Australia captain Ricky Ponting at the crease and the veteran player batted sensibly along with Watson. Both players put together 65 runs for the second wicket, guiding their team to a very strong position.
However, Ponting was unlucky to be run out after getting a very good start to his innings. The stylish first drop player got out after scoring 34 runs from just 31 balls with the help of 5 fours and one massive six.
Watson also failed to capitalise on the good start and he was dismissed after scoring 37 runs off 32 balls. He looked threatening and hit 3 fours and 2 towering sixes.
The fall of two quick wickets brought Clarke and Cameron White in the middle and the pair looked to steady the ship for their team. Both batsmen were unbeaten on 20 and 15 halfway through their innings and will be eying a strong finish.
Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak bowled well for his one wicket. He received good support from Mortaza, who was expensive but took the wicket of Haddin.
