T20 tri-series today on June 22 at the Harare Sports Club.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat on a surface which is known to be merciless to batsmen in the latter stages of the match. However, the Proteas appeared unable to benefit from their decision, proving easy targets for the Tigers’ bowlers, as they
picked them off one by one.
The innings were opened by stand-in skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 in their previous match, expectations were riding high – Amla had scored
an unbeaten 88 in the team’s series opener against Bangladesh, while du Plessis was coming in after a successful stint as opener for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League.
However, both batsmen were unable to get their team off to a solid start. The opening stand yielded a total of 29 runs, after which Elias Sunny, the Tigers’ top bowler of the day who finished with figures of 2 for 22, intervened to dismiss du Plessis in
the 5th over.

Clumsy running resulted in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nasir-Hossain-c77146, but his dismissal made way for Ontong (41) and Behardien (16), both of whom joined forces to set up a 56-run stand which got their side up to 90 by the 16th
over. Ontong was sent back to the pavilion by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushfiqur-Rahim-c2045, and Behardien’s dismissal at the hands of Elias Sunny in the 17th over saw the Proteas at a precarious 96 for 5.
